The Missionary Church’s Coaching Task Force has a vision for coaching that we in the Central Region embrace:

Every leader empowered…

through coaching and coaching skills…

to multiply disciples, leaders, and churches.

What is Coaching?

“Coaching is an ongoing, intentional conversation that empowers a person or group to fully live out God’s calling”. -Keith Webb

What is the posture of a coach?

With a passion for empowering others, coaches draw out what the Holy Spirit has put in someone’s heart. As Solomon wrote, “The purposes of a person’s heart are like deep water, but one who has understanding brings them out.” (NIRV)

Jesus is our Master Coach

When you watch the way that Jesus interacted with people, you see that He was often listening and asking questions. The Gospels record over 225 questions of Jesus. As Tim Roehl points out,

“We can learn much about coaching from Him. He met people where they were- He asked questions. He assessed needs. He affirmed their worth and value to Him…the life of Jesus is an inexhaustible supply of wisdom and insights about how to coach.”

An enduring culture of coaching is focused on the development of oneself and the leaders around you. The outcome of an empowering culture will be the multiplication of disciples, leaders, and churches who bear lasting fruit.

  1. Disciples and leaders will be empowered through coaching.

  2. Coaches will be developed and empowered.

  3. A coaching mindset and lifestyle will be embraced.

  4. Our empowering culture will impact every leader in every church in every region.

According to a recent global study published by Gallup in It’s the Manager: Moving from Boss to Coach (2019),

“Today’s workers, particularly millennials, are asking for something different. They want a coach, not a boss. They want clear expectations, accountability, a rich purpose—and they especially want ongoing feedback and coaching.”

The Gallup study concludes,

“Becoming an effective coach is the most important skill any manager [aka leader] can develop.”

According to an ASTD report in 2012, “The majority of organizations use on-the-job training as a development approach, but formal/coaching is the only approach correlated to higher market performance.”

Coaching empowers every leader. We envision every leader in the Central Region utilizing coaching skills to empower those who they serve and lead.

Coaching will bear fruit in the lives of those who have lead for a few decades, but it just may have the greatest impact on the generations that follow us. They desire to be coached, and the Central Region is committed to equipping you with the coaching skills needed for the task ahead.
